Abstract
Juvenile nasopharyngeal angiofibroma (JNA) is a rare head and neck tumor with high recurrence. We retrospectively reviewed 18 cases of juvenile nasopharyngeal angiofibroma managed at Yonsei University Severance Hospital from January 1970 to
February
1994 to analyze the clinical behavior, effect of different treatment modalities, recurrence according to the various surgical approach and Sesson's tumor staging, and treatment in recurred cases. Sphenoid and maxillary sinuses were common
extension
sites. Recurrence rate was 33.3% in Seson's ¥°, 3.3% in Sesson's ¥± and no recurrence in Sesson's ¥². Treatment in recurred cases was composed of surgery or radiation. Our result indicates that complete surgical excision can be the most important
factor
to reduce the recurrence rate. (Korean J Otolaryngol 38:7, 1995)
